As a blogger, you probably want to develop a loyal following; people who come across one of your articles, read it, love it and keep coming back to your website to read your next post and the one after that. That’s the dream, right? After all, the more readers you have, the more likely you are to attract some paid work. You have to be determined; keep posting quality content on a regular basis until it finally starts to attract a decent number of readers. However, there are other things you can do.

Start by making sure your content is SEO friendly, with appropriate keywords and a strong backlink profile. Think about what your target audience might be searching on Google and work with those words and phrases. However, don’t use too many keywords as this will have the adverse effect. Try and incorporate variations of the keywords naturally so that the article still reads well, rather than stuffing them in unnecessarily.

Be sure to leverage social media by creating profiles on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest and sharing your posts. This will encourage your followers to head to your blog. You can also add “Share” buttons to your posts to make it easier for your readers to pass your blog onto their own followers. Use your social channels to connect with the community and build relationships with other bloggers like you, as well as people you might like to work with.

Read up on the latest trends to find out how you can continuously develop your blog and the way you market it, otherwise you’ll be stuck in the past and people will choose other, more modern blogs to read.

Above all, be patient and try not get too worked up about building a sizable audience, it will happen when it happens. Many of the bloggers you look up to and admire have probably been in the game for a long time so don’t be discouraged by other people doing well.
