Sometimes, work can be stressful. You may feel as though you’re constantly trying to juggle your responsibilities and that you are also unable to relax at night. This can eventually take its toll and if you’re not careful, it can have a huge impact on your health.

Track your Stressors

If you want to help yourself then you need to track your stressors. Keep a journal for a week and identify which situations cause you to feel stress. You might also want to write down your thoughts too, as this will help you to understand your feelings. If you want to take things to that next level, then also write down how you reacted and how you calmed down afterwards. Did you take a walk? Chat with a friend? Grab something from the vending machine?

Develop Healthy Responses

Stress can cause you to make bad decisions from time to time. You might try and fight it by consuming alcohol or even ordering fast food. This can provide you with temporary relief, but it won’t do much for you in the long-term. Exercise is a much healthier stress-buster and so is yoga. If these options don’t appeal to you then you might want to read a book, play some games with your family or even watch one of your favourite TV shows. This will help you to develop healthier habits and it will also help you to deal with your stress much more efficiently.

Establish Boundaries

We live in a very digital world. It’s easy to feel pressure 24 hours a day, especially when your phone is constantly blowing up. If you want to help yourself here, then you need to try and establish some boundaries. This could mean not checking your emails after 5pm, or even not answering your phone when you are sat having dinner. At the end of the day, you need to set rules that work for you, so that you can live a life that doesn’t always revolve around work.

Talk to a Supervisor

Stress can have an impact on your work performance. If you believe that this is happening with you then you need to have a very open conversation with your manager. When you do, try and avoid making tons of complaints. Instead, talk with them about the stressors that you have identified, and come up with a solution that will help you. It may be that you transition into another part of the company or that you are given more flexible time. Employee health is always a company’s priority so don’t be afraid to talk about the way that you feel.
