So here it is the summer holidays and I’m frantically trying to find something to keep the days filled and keep the little ones busy. It can be so expensive finding something daily to do , I have been scouting out all the free activities around Pontypool and surrounding to compile this list.
1st Aug – 29th 11am Recycling crafts at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre Free entry
This is running every Wednesday throughout the holidays at 11am-4pm. Summer Recycling Crafts with the Council’s Recycling Team. Examples include making compost heads using the compost they get from the recycling of garden waste, bird feeders and bird houses from old bottles. Free Entry.
Sunday 12th Aug 2pm – 4pm Teddy bears picnic Blaenavon World Heritage Centre – £1 entry
Take your favourite teddy bear along for a picnic at the heritage centre. With Mad Mels disco , entertainment , face painting and games. Best dressed bear wins a prize.
Thursday 2nd August 12-4pm Jurassic Pontypool – Free entry
Go along to the indoor market to meet Percy the Parasaurolophus and all his dino chums at Dino4Hire. There will also be lots of art and craft for all your little velociraptors.
Tuesdays 10-11.30am throughout the summer Wild Tots at Penygarn American gardens – £2 per family
Exploring in their natural environment , all ages welcome , messy play – loads of fresh air and freedom.
Wednesdays mornings – Pontypool museum – Free entry for families
The museum is open Tuesday-Thursday 10-4 and Saturday-Sunday 1-4. Children have free entry at all times but for Wednesday mornings during the school holidays all the family can go in for free. Loads to see and a lovely tea room – lots of toys and activities around the museum, quiz sheets and games to play with and our Torfaen Treasure booklets to fill in and keep.
Free swimming for children ages under 17 years – Pontypool active living centre
Monday , Wednesday , Friday and Saturday – all public sessions – see timetable – children can swim for free as long as they have an active living card which you can get from reception.
Pontypool active living centre – Go bounce and treasure island £2 entry for each
Treasure island soft play is fab for the little ones and all enclosed with no huge drops to keep them busy. Go bounce is also fab to burn off some energy. Th go bounce times are released weekly so you need to keep an eye on their Facebook page.
1st August 12pm-4pm – Zest in the park with Melin homes – Free entry
A family fun day for everyone including – all free too
Green Meadow Community Farm
And loads more.
Forest walks / mountain walks
I have written about various forest and mountain walks before- fab for a day out with loads of fresh air and freedom. Just pack a picnic and set off. We love keepers pond there is so much to explore and a lovely stream to paddle in on the hotter days. My two love feeding the sheep too who are so friendly.
Daily – Blaenavon Workmens Hall Cinema
Various films on over the summer much cheaper than the big brand cinemas – Adult tickets £4.25 and concessions £3.00. Check the Facebook page for films and times.
National Eisteddfod in Cardiff Bay 4-11 August is free of charge – such a fab event and so much to do. You can also get on the train from New Inn.
