Archie started school in September and withing a couple of weeks of school he started to get homework , he gets this nearly every week and he does enjoy it. I do think it’s good for them to reinforce the learning and also read at home.
Say the word homework and you are almost guaranteed to get some kind of moan or groan in response but it needs to be done! So how can we make it more fun for our children to do their homework? Taunton School, an independent school in Somerset have put together the following list of ideas for us to try at homework time.
Children love one on one time with their parents or siblings and would usually do with some extra attention when it comes to homework that they are not looking forward to. Sit down and work through the questions with your child rather than leaving them to do it at the table alone.
Treats for good work
Some people disagree with awarding treats for homework but if it works for you and your children then why not have a cupcake or their favourite song on the radio at the end of their hard work?
In this day and age smart phones and other forms of technology are everywhere; it seems we cannot escape them! SO why not use them to our advantage? There are some fantastic leaning apps out there to help you and your child at home work time, make sure you take advantage of them.
Invite a homework buddy over
Everything is more fun with friends; why not let your child invite a friend over for tea? While you are cooking the dinner they can be working together on their maths homework or creating their latest science project together.
Don’t take it too seriously!
Not everything needs to be so serious, smile, laugh and have fun! No idea is a bad idea, let the imagination flow and have some fun with it. You will be helping your child complete their homework while also creating some memories to last a lifetime!
