Half term next week, I can’t wait to have no school runs to do and some time to have fun with my little ones. Here are the local activities and events I have found for next week.

The Dinosaur Show Ebbw vale leisure centre – Fri 21st 12pm and 6pm
The Dinosaur Show is a great opportunity for families to see some extinct cretaceous creatures and learn some cool facts! Meet Terrance the Daddy T-Rex and his son Tommy the baby T-Rex along with Sylvie the Stygimoloch baby, Princess Tia the Triceratops and Vinnie the crazy Velociraptor. Animal encounters Cardiff Castle Tues 18th Feb from 10.15
At Cardiff Castle this half-term an exciting, hands-on encounter with some exotic members of the animal kingdom. As entertaining as it is educational, this show lets you get up-close and personal with some amazing species while learning all about their habitats and behaviours. Show off to the crowd as you handle our cast of creatures that walk, crawl, slither and even fly! Great fun for kids of all ages, mums and dads are allowed to get involved too.

This is a fab couple of hours out – if your children are tall enough they can go down to the mine- there are also virtual reality films showing you can discover the industrial history of Blaenavon World Heritage Site in South Wales through three virtual reality films until 2nd April 2020. Time Travel in the Blaenavon World Heritage Site will feature real characters and use 3D technology and audio storytelling to bring history to life. So step back to the past and learn about life in the town primary school, a local family’s home and at Big Pit itself.
The 360 videos can be watched online at home or accessed on phones and tablets. Why not make the most of the films by enjoying them during a family day out in Blaenavon? There are even special Time Traveller’s Benches at iconic sites including Big Pit and the town of Blaenavon.
Finally, accompanying VR headsets are available to borrow from Big Pit or Blaenavon World Heritage Centre (depost of £5). Alternatively, the content can be viewed using a mobile phone.

Encourage an interest in wildlife by taking the children to Bedwellty House and Park in Blaenau Gwent, South Wales, and making a nest box for birds in your garden.
