Blackpool is a place we have never visited as a family , James and I popped in for an hour once on the way back from a another mini break. We were over the moon to be invited to Coral Island Blackpool to check out their arcade family attraction and all they have to offer.

Coral Island is Blackpool’s largest indoor free admission family attraction. It is filled with great food places and loads of family favourite rides and fun for all. They also have adult gaming a casino and prize bingo.

We didn’t tell the children until Friday morning that we were heading up to Blackpool later that day. They were so excited when we told them that we were visiting an arcade by the seaside with 2p machines , which are their favourite.

We decided to make a weekend of it and travel up on the Friday , the hotel we chose to stay at was a Premier Inn at Preston East. This was around a 20 minute drive from Blackpool which was fab for us as there is plenty of reasonably priced car parking in and around Blackpool.

Saturday morning we were up bright and early and had a light breakfast in our hotel room. We left by 9am and headed in to Blackpool and chose the car park behind Coral Island , which was reasonably priced at £10.00 which lasted all day. Coral Island didn’t open until 10am so we went for a little explore along the seafront and the beach which was beautiful.

We headed to Coral Island for 10.30 and the first thing the little ones saw was the Toy Story cut outs so of course they had to have a photo with these. For the launch of the Toy Story characters from the film were visiting all weekend. There was a lot of “wows” and “look how cool that is” as we walked in , Archie and Frankie were in awe.

Machines and arcade games

First stop was the 2p machines which we all love , it was great as the machines had a selection of prizes including sweeties galore , tokens to exchange for ticket tokens , key rings and of course the machines fed out ticket tokens to exchange later one for prizes. We won a good amount of ticket tokens to exchange for later.

There were so many different arcade machines and games to play. We tested out quite a few including the virtual reality game which Frankie really loved , the ball grabber machine , the teddy grabbers and also the car and motorbike games. We all loved the air hockey too , the little ones ha a few games and then we found the 4 player one and had a few games which was fab.

They have a new VR game which is £3 a go , but it was fab value for money as Frankie really enjoyed it.

Camel Derby

We had never played a camel derby before and wow we have missed out ! It was so much fun. The object is the game is to race your camel across the sand dunes by rolling your three balls into the coloured holes. You need to aim for as many red holes as you can to get a higher score.

The holes are – Red – Gallop, Blue – Canter, Yellow – Trot. You can play for £1 with a winner every time or you can collect your winnings to trade up for bigger and better prizes. We had so much fun doing this and both of the little ones won a cuddly toy each which they loved.

Family bingo

We have only ever played the traditional bingo and have never played bingo with the little ones so we were excited to try this one. We loved it , and the little ones found it so easy to play and they were over the moon that they won a few games and won some prizes. I have to say the prizes were amazing from a bag of Haribo to a washing machine. Archie chose a velvet colouring poster and sweeties and Frankie chose a pirate sword set and some sweeties. It’s also only 60p for 4 chances which is fab.

Rides

There were some great rides in coral island including loads of little fun ones for the younger children. Two rides that we really enjoyed were the ghost train and the high flyer. My two had never been on a ghost train before and they did enjoy it , they said it was a bit scary and cuddled in tight but they were OK during the ride. The high flyer is amazing , it’s like a mini roller coaster that rides all along the top of coral island. The little ones and James loved it and you could see what a fab view they had from the videos they took.

Eating at Coral Island

There are so many different places to eat within coral island you will be sure to find something for everyone. There is the Buccaneer that serves all the family favourites, with adult meals from £8.95 and kids meals from £4.50 or free with our Kids Eat Free offer. They also have a carvery on a Sunday.

There is also Captain Jacks where we were kindly gifted a meal. Captain Jacks bar and grill offer a fab choice of steaks , chicken , ribs , burgers and much more. The laid back vibe was so lovely and also the view out to the seafront. The staff were so friendly an amazing with the little ones , nothing was too much for them.

James and ordered starters and we shared the calamari and loaded nachos , they were both so yummy and fresh. The little ones shared these too as the portions were huge. I’m always a but dubious about ordering calamari as it can be hit ans miss but this was honestly the nicest we have tried.

For mains I went for the hunters chicken and James went for the Captain jacks platter. Archie and Frankie both chose sausage and chips. The meals came and thy looked so fresh and the portions were huge ! Again we all really enjoyed the meals and could not fault them , the little ones ate for free being under 10.

We still had room to sample some deserts , they are huge so we ordered 2 and shared. We went for the chocolate fudge cake and strawberry cheesecake which were both delicious. Frankie said it was the best cake ever and didn’t want it to end. We were all really impressed with Captain jacks.

Overall we were majorly impressed with Coral island and the staff were so friendly. It is such a great place to visit no matter what the weather brings too. There is also so much choice for all young or old. We had a fantastic day and it made our trip to Blackpool. We will be back again for sure !

After our day at coral island we could not turn down a play and chill on the beach as we had glorious weather that day , as you can see Archie and Frankie loved this too. You can have so much fun on the seafront rain or shine , we were lucky we had amazing weather but as long as you have your kids waterproof jacket with you then you are good to go.

*This is a paid collaboration , we were also gifted a VIP card , loot bag with cash and coral island goodies and also a meal for a family of four. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
