Explain the situation to them
It’s important that you explain whatever tough situation you are all facing to your children as factually and sensitively as possible. If they pick up on something but they don’t exactly know what is going on, they will stress and worry and build it up more than necessary, which could make them ill. Encouraging your children to express their feelings is really important. Let them know that it’s okay to be sad or angry or even to feel nothing at all. Let them know that everyone deals with tough situations differently and that’s just fine. If they need to be alone, let them be alone, if they need a shoulder to cry on, be there for them.

There is only so much us parents can do and there is no shame in getting outside help. Whatever is best for your kids is what you need to do.
